Legal Aid Queensland  can provide legal advice about discrimination and sexual harassment. Their anti-discrimination unit provides specialist help to victims of discrimination. It doesn’t give legal advice if you have been accused of discrimination or sexual assault.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (ATSILS) is a community-based organisation that provides culturally competent legal services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Queensland. The MoneySmart website has information for aboriginal people about ‘book up’, help with money, door-to-door sales, mobile phones and other topics. It also has an indigenous Outreach Team which provides support. Contact the Indigenous Help Line on 1300 365 957 www.moneysmart.gov.au


Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander support is also offered by the Office of Fair Trading to help resolve disputes. Aboriginal people experiencing problems as a result of signing contracts can lodge complaints online at www.qld.gov.au/law/fairtrading or phone 13 74 68. Aboriginal and Indigenious Language Interpreting Service.

Indigenous Language Interpreting Services are offered by 2M Language Services.

They currently provide Indigenous languages interpreting services in the following QLD Indigenous languages:

  • Yumplatok – Torres Strait Island Creole
  • Wik Mungkan
  • Kala Lagaw Ya
  • Kala Kawaw La
  • Meriam Mir
  • Dyirbal

The Indigenous interpreters are experienced linguists with NAATI accreditation (transitioning into certification) and acting as mentors for new budding interpreters. We are constantly looking for talented QLD Indigenous language speakers interested in becoming interpreters.
